Hughie Duvall Hunt, II is the founding partner of Kemet & Hunt. He successfully practices in the areas of bankruptcy, criminal defense, family law, probate, and business law.
Mr. Hunt heads the firm's family law and criminal defense practice yet handles a diverse caseload with significant successful litigation experience before judge and jury in all areas of his practice.
Mr. Hunt is a former GTE Academic All-American football standout, and proved to be formidable force both on and off the field. Selected by then Georgia Governor Zell Miller, Hunt was the first African-American from his undergraduate institution to serve as the Governor's Honors Intern for the District Attorney's Office of Bulloch County. As President of the Black Student Alliance, Mr. Hunt organized a successful protest of a local movie theatre to bring more diverse programming along with the student body president. He was a member of the student/faculty judicial board, Golden Key National Honor Society Eagle 3.0 Club, and won strength awards as a member of the Georgia Southern University Football Team, the institution from which he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration.
Active in the community, Hunt also has his own weekly column for the student newspaper. His love for knowledge and the law took him to The George Washington University Law School, an institution that has produced many of the nation's top attorneys, senators, and congressman.
While in law school, Mr. Hunt served as president of the Black Law Students Association. He was involved in the Student Recruitment Committee, Alternative Dispute Resolution Board, and participated in several Trial Court Competitions. He was also active in the clinics offered through the Law school serving as a research assistant and a clinic fellow at the Jacob Burns Community Legal Clinic in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Hunt remains active in the community, and in continuing his education. He is a member of the Marlborough Inns of Court, coaches the mock trial team at the Northwestern High School, is a member of Joseph, Greenwald & Laake's Family Law Clinic, and is involved with local and national bar associations. He also holds a position on the executive board for the Young Lawyers Division of the Maryland State Bar association where he is the Prince George's County Representative to the Young Lawyer Division.
Mr. Hunt is fluent in Spanish, and has studied abroad in Costa Rica, Mexico, as an undergraduate and in Guatemala. An avid traveler, Hunt has visited South Africa, Germany, Honduras, Cuba and many of the states.
